Brief views about Preface to Lyrical Ballads- William Wordsworth

Basic ideas of Wordsworth, in his ‘The Preface to Lyrical Ballads’

The main difference between classicism and romanticism are as below:
Indian the time of romanticism the poets were free to think and imagine, and free to express whatever the feel. Whereas Indian the classicism the function of the poetry is to provide knowledge and the driving force behind their creation is intellect. So we can say that In the time of classicism the poets were restricted, they were not allowed to think, or to imagine and to express what they feel. Classics were imitating or present city life, and they follow Greek and Roman tradition. Whereas romantics were imitating the rustic life and they idealize the nature.

Here Wordsworth does not ask who is poet, because it does not matter to him cause he did not want to concern the man who he is, and it’s not important to him. Because what matters to him is the quality and the skill what makes him poet

The word diction means the effectiveness and the degree of clarity of word choice, and presentation of said word. Poetic diction means language style used Indian poetry. In his Preface to Lyrical Ballads Wordsworth suggest that the language of the poem should be simple. The language of conversation Indian middle and lower classes of society should be used in poem. The selection of the words is necessary because all the words used by them cannot use directly in poem. And words should have colored with imagination. Imagination somehow helps a poet Indian selection of words.

The definition of poet given by him is that “poet is man speaking to man: it is true, endowed with more lively sensibility, more enthusiasm and tenderness. He has greater knowledge of human nature. And a more comprehensive soul, than one supposed to be a common among humankind. He has possessed imagination far better than common human being.
The below poem will help us to understand Wordsworth’s poetic creed.
“I wandered lonely as a cloud”    according to him poem is “spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings recollected in tranquility”. In this poem he describes the beauty of the daffodils He has seen. That gives him pleasure and peace of mind. From the past He comes back to the present and says that whenever he is in passive mood, the sight of the daffodils feels his heart with joy.
